Training and Tasks
Training and Tasks as Diversty Scout
How can I become a Diversity Scout?
Interested students from all five faculties (who have at least completed their first semester at FAU) will attend the seminar “Diversity Scouts: Theoretische Grundlagen und vielfältige Beratungsangebote an der FAU“, which is offered every summer semester.
Content:
- Theoretical introduction to and discussion of diversity, its central concepts and its various dimensions
- Creating awareness of social inequality and opportunities for establishing equal opportunities at the university
- Learning about the various counseling, further education and support services offered to students at the FAU
- Meeting the current Diversity Scouts and getting to know the Learning Lab
BA students who regularly and successfully participate in the seminar obtain 5 ECTS for key qualifications. MA students may choose to receive a (graded) certificate of attendance instead; students of medicine can elect this seminar as one of their elective courses in the clinical semesters 5 and 6. The seminar description is available on UnivIS either under Key qualifications or via the Studiendekanat Medizin pages. Registration for the seminar is possible each summer semester via mein campus. Students of law must additionally register with jura-studienberatung@fau.de.
Which tasks does the job as a Diversity Scout include?
Students who have completed the seminar can apply for the job as a Diversity Scout at FAU. If their application is successful, they will be hired as student assistants at the Office of Equality and Diversity for two semesters (for up to 8 hours/week). They are closely linked to their respective faculty and also support the Learning Lab, a central student-to-student service institution at FAU.
Tasks and responsibilities:
- Serving as ‘ambassadors of diversity’, i.e., facilitating networking between diverse students, so as to contribute to a non-discriminatory university culture
- Cooperation with other (student) initiatives at FAU and (collaborative) organization of events
- Giving assistance and support to students seeking orientation at FAU, especially freshmen
- Student-to-student counselling in various everyday life situations, face-to-face as well as online
- Proactive representation of FAU’s Diversity Scouts project at events and in courses, especially within their own faculties
- Supporting students in the Learning Lab
Up to three Diversity Scouts can be hired for each of FAU’s five faculties. Vacancies will be announced on this page after each Diversity Scouts seminar. The next recruitment round will probably be for the winter semester 2019/20.
