Scholarship Programme 'Promotion of Equal Opportunities for Women in Research and Teaching' (FFL)

Since 2008, the Free State of Bavaria offers every Bavarian university funds to support the ‘Promotion of Equal Opportunities for Women in Research and Teaching’ (FFL). The funds are to be used to finance scholarships and to partially finance projects in the field of gender studies.

The scholarships are awarded to female scientists with above-average achievements who

  • finalize their doctoral thesis,
  • are in the postdoctoral or habilitation phase, or
  • have already submitted her habilitation thesis but have not yet completed the procedure

at one of the five faculties of FAU.

Only women who are pursuing an academic career with the goal of a professorship in Germany will be funded.

A connection to FAU through a supervisor or mentor must be clear. The duration of the scholarships is a maximum of 12 months, in the case of scholarships for excellent young academics 6 months. The scholarship must begin between 01.06. and 01.09., as a rule at the beginning of the month. The scholarship may not be a substitute for an existing employment relationship.

Participation in a pre-selection interview is mandatory in case of application. If you are seriously interested, please make an appointment with Dr. Imke Leicht (gender-und-diversity@fau.de). This appointment must have taken place no later than two weeks before the application deadline.

Please read carefully the guidelines for awarding the grants:

  • Current version of the guidelines (PDF)

Here you will find further forms and documents for the application:

  • Application form „Promotion Equal Opportunities for Women in Research and Teaching“ (FFL) (Word-file)

Up to 10,000 euros are available to support projects in the field of gender studies. The prerequisite for submitting an application is that the applicant is a member of FAU. Funding can be provided for event formats such as conferences, symposia, summer schools, etc. on gender studies topics that are organised at FAU. Teaching courses cannot be funded. The funds must be spent in the respective calendar year. Further information on the application can be found in the current version of the guidelines (PDF).
